Taylor McConnell Sporeshift Gourmet Mushrooms

Taylor and his partner run a small gourmet mushroom farm in North Canterbury supplying mushrooms to restaurants and markets in the area. During the presentation, you will hear about the process of how mushrooms are grown from local agricultural waste and coffee grounds, gain a better understanding of the different varieties available and also have the opportunity to take home your very own mushroom farm!

Learn some of his indoor growing tricks, obstacles to avoid, and how to keep the plants well nourished and healthy.

A Salty Day with Sassy Michelle

Michelle has been making ‘saveur de sel’, and roasting her own garlic for many years, she was frequently seen at the French markets selling salts, but lucky for us she is now based in Canterbury at our local markets. She uses Marlborough sea salt mixed with local herbs, truffles (when in season), citrus and her special ‘magic’ to create her own salt blends.

Michelle will explain the craft and then the group will have the opportunity to make their very own salt blend to take home, guaranteed to be a lot of fun, Michelle is a true foodie, but be in quick there are limited places!

Flower Tutorial with Florist Natalie-Rose Rutherford from Flowerhead

Natalie-Rose first learnt about floristry in Amsterdam but returned to New Zealand where she has set up Flowerhead, creating floral wonder for weddings and events. Luckily for us she is going to share her knowledge in a 2 hour workshop, delivering a tutorial and then helping attendees with their own floral arrangements to take home. This is sure to be a stunning workshop but there are limited places so book early to avoid disappointment.

Penny Zino from Flaxmere Garden

An inspirational gardening discussion with Penny Zino, owner and creator of the award winning Flaxmere garden in the Hawarden district. Penny discusses her gardening life, the challenges of the North Canterbury climate and the influences and inspiration to continue creating.The garden began in 1966 and it has been a labour of love, for many years it was the home of Sculpture in the Garden , and now the home for her large extensive family to enjoy and visit . Penny will have her book for viewing and signing, and will also discuss the forthcoming gardens to view at the Hurunui Garden Festival 2020.
